This bloke is a - maybe the - expert in leveraged debt.

Remember that the taxpayer claw back is reduced against debt.

Why would Blackstone give Sullivan money to buy the stadium when 1) they aren't involved with the club at all and 2) he could loan the club the money and charge his usual 7% extortionate rate?

Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
He will put as little of that billion in purchasing the OS as he can. Maybe look for some for some help. From the likes of a company of The Blackstone Group.?

Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
It seems that Birmingham is the next venue for the Commonwealth Games after Brisbane, next year. The BCC reckons that it will cost them £0.75B pounds to put on and this includes an upgrade to the Alexander athletics stadium.

You never know, it could end up as the real national athletics stadium leaving the OS to relinquish this Olympic legacy business.

Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
Sullivan is worth 1bn, not entirely sure he actually NEEDS help to buy the stadium.

Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
Trev. I would imagine said Yank would be able to help the SPIVS with any financial help in purchasing the OS. Should any problems arise. For a greater say of course.

as the club is obviously not listed and as the buyer seems to be a private individual the price doesn't need to be made public, unfortunately mate. would be good to know though!

Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
Intriguing for sure, price would give an indication perhaps, as I said, there is a reason and a plan

Any of our city type chaps have anything more substantial to offer as we speculate away?

RB

what would that have to do with the icelandics selling their stake to a yank?

Gavros 9:48 Fri Sep 29
Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
oh yeah definitely. this bloke is remember, at the sharp end of a very sharp firm. make no mistake at all, he sees a killing here. and you dont make a killing by making a football club shit.

RBshorty 9:46 Fri Sep 29
Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
Didn't the SPIVS just remortgage the training grounds and the like. Could be trying in build a pot of money. In the hope of nabbing the OS on the cheap.?

Crassus 9:38 Fri Sep 29
Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
Yeah Gav I get that and perhaps poorly articulated a hypothetical route he may have considered to furthering his holding

One thing is sure, he has done so for a reason - let the speculation roll as to what that may be

Of course it may be he had the sellers over a barrel and took the shares at an attractive price?

Gavros 9:26 Fri Sep 29
Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
but the daves are not going to sell part of their asset to someone who doesnt invest in kind, as all they would be doing would be to transfer asset value to him. You wouldnt sell 10% of your house to someone and then do work to the house that increased the value by 20%, you'd sell at a price such that the investment made is as profitable to him as to you, ie at a discount. Or you sell 10% and insist that the other guy pays for 10% of the work.

Dave
I would imagine there is a strategy behind it all but a cursory thought ought be applied to revenue streams
TV is the biggy, with the new overseas deal going to catapult those further and all those doubters saying the bubble will burst, are way ahead of themselves. The next phase will be on line streaming rights for the like of Amazon and co, totally blowing current deals away and SKY with it.

The Yank can sit on his investment and watch it grow by doing fuck all - provided we stay in the PL and there may be his opportunity, relegation would jeopodise his and the Daves investment, they may be inclined to sell him a little more if we needed funds
Interesting times

Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
you asset strip when you see that the underlying value of the entity is worth more than the whole, as a going concern.

you bulk an asset up when you see that in doing so you add that and above to the value of the whole.

ie housing: in the 60s in west london grand victorian villas were turned into flats by slum landlords. Now, those flats are being tunred back into victorian villas. where is english football relatively? in the 60s or now?

Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
To be fair Denver ain't wrong in saying that blackstone have a nasty habit of being a harbinger of doom. They are well known asset strippers. However a 10% stake in a venture with no real asset value isn't making me shit my breeches. Just a punt I would imagine.

Gavros 9:16 Fri Sep 29
Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
fucking hell.

yeah mate good idea: buy a stake in a club then sell all its players, thus ensuring you get relegated and get no more money.

Genius business mind.

Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
Comma
And there in lay the critical point

Multi millionaires are not daft but occasionally make daft decisions. The days of Yanks buying football clubs and not being aware of relegation has gone

Also, consider his past/current relationship with Parrish

Now Denver, I hear what you say and granted, it would be interesting to know why he bought in, but likely we will not find out although his purchase price would be interesting and did the Icelandics have any link or debt of some sort to him/his business?

Either way, 10% gives him fuck all leverage beyond a coffee at the board meeting, which doubtless will now be a corporate nicety with the actual decisions made privately

Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
Oh, I forgot to add that of course in major USA sport promotion and relegation don't exist.

, 9:02 Fri Sep 29
Re: Icelandics sell remainign shares
Denver, interesting point about budget buys etc. but as other purchasers of clubs have found the budget buy system generally leads to relegation and heavy depreciation of the "asset".

Ask the likes of Aston Villa and Sunderland fans what they think of USA owners.

Our current owners seem intent on regular PL survival so whatever is said about them has to acknowledge that they know full well the ramifications of relegation.

Erh, yes. Time for you to go back under your rock Denver, you're a fucking embarrassment.
